The initiative of the Jubilee of the Pizzaiolo, held from December 8th to 10th, 2011, at the archbishop’s curia in Naples, was born by the will of Cardinal Crescenzio Sepe, in collaboration with the association of pizzaiuoli and pizzerias “Margherita Regina,” and with the participation of the committee for the protection and valorization of pizza.

The Jubilee of the Pizzaiolo aimed to open doors to hope and new horizons for those seeking to enter the world of work and production, thanks to the unique techniques involved in preparing a typical and characteristic product that has contributed to making the city of Naples famous worldwide. It is about continuing a professional heritage and an ancient tradition born from the mastery of Neapolitan pizzaiuoli, who pass down the art of pizza from generation to generation.

Naples Master Pizzaiolo Maurizio Ferrillo was honored with the recognition for participating in the Jubilee gathering dedicated to pizzaioli, convened by Cardinal H.E. Crescenzio Sepe.

It took place from October 8th to 15th, 2012, during a cruise in the Mediterranean, aboard MSC Fantasia, the seventh edition of the trophy “City of Naples – The international championship for Mediterranean pizzaioli”: a true tournament aimed at the artists of the quintessential Campanian product.

Departing from Naples, MSC Fantasia visited the cities of Palermo, Tunis, Barcelona, Marseille, Genoa and returned to Naples.

With 278 people tossing pizza dough in the air, Naples beat the previous record held by Americans (265 people in the city of Los Angeles in June 2014 simultaneously tossing as many pizzas).

The record was certified on September 16, 2014, in Naples, by the Guinness World Record judge, Lorenzo Veltri, who first counted the participants and then measured all the pizzas (minimum diameter of 31 centimeters).

“A festival of taste where the mastery of all the pizzaioli won, called to a collective effort to enter history. A playful opportunity to introduce the world to the goodness of the pizza margherita, enhanced by the best of Campania’s agri-food products,” said Claudio Ospite, vice president of the “Margherita Regina” association, which, together with the National Pizza Institute, organized the event.

The Naples Master Pizzaiolo Maurizio Ferrillo received recognition from Guinness World Records for assembling the team of 300 pizzaioli who achieved the “MOST PEOPLE TOSSING PIZZA DOUGH” record.
